Bageshwar district has confirmed a one-day holiday for all schools from Classes 1 to 12 and for Anganwadi centres on July 27. The precautionary order followed a heavy rainfall warning from the IMD’s Dehradun centre.
The closure applies across the district and is intended to reduce the risks faced by children, staff and families travelling through rain-affected areas. No statewide school shutdown has been confirmed for all of Uttarakhand.
Jammu and Kashmir Schools Reopen
Schools across Jammu and Kashmir are expected to reopen on July 27 after the summer vacation was extended through July 26 because of unsettled weather. Government and recognised private schools were included in the extension.
Reports on Sunday said improved conditions led the administration to avoid another extension. Families should still check messages from their own schools before leaving home, particularly in areas where roads or transport services may be affected.
Gujarat and Maharashtra Await Local Decisions
In Gujarat, recent intense rain led to temporary closures in Ahmedabad, where authorities had earlier suspended classes and said reopening would depend on a fresh weather review. Anganwadi centres managed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation were ordered to remain closed through July 27.
Families in Ahmedabad, Valsad and other rain-affected districts should rely on district collector notices rather than unverified social-media messages.
Maharashtra has not announced a statewide school holiday for July 27. Conditions can vary sharply between Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune, Konkan and interior districts, meaning any closure is likely to be local. The IMD forecast very heavy rain over parts of Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, making district-level updates especially important.
Other States Under Weather Watch
Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal face the most serious rainfall forecast, but a weather alert does not automatically mean every school is closed. Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Karnataka and Kerala also have rain risks in certain areas.
Parents, guardians and caregivers should look for confirmed orders from district administrations, education departments and individual schools.
What Families Should Check Before School
Families should review official school messages, district websites and verified government accounts before arranging travel. School-bus users, children living in low-lying areas and students with disabilities may need additional time or alternative transport.
