EPFO begins crediting 8.25% interest

The EPFO has started crediting the yearly interest at 8.25% for the FY 2025-26 after government clearance. According to official notification, this activity pertains to about 34 crore member accounts and it is one of the largest operations of yearly interest credit in the country. The EPFO’s centralised digital system is said to have helped in faster rollout.

Note: Subscribers should be aware that interest is calculated on a monthly running balance. Even if the entry appears later in the passbook, members will get the entire amount due under EPFO guidelines.

4 Easy Ways to Check PF Balance

Members can confirm interest has been credited using these official channels:

  • Access the EPFO Member e-Sewa Portal and check the revised passbook.
  • You can check your PF balance and passbook data on UMANG mobile app.
  • To get balance information, send an SMS in the prescribed format of EPFO from the registered cellphone number. Drop a missed call to the EPFO service number from the registered mobile number and get the account data through SMS.
  • Services are applicable only for activated Universal Account Number (UAN) and mobile number should be linked with EPFO records.

Why This EPFO Update Is Important

The annual interest credit is a big boost for employees’ retirement savings. For members with a higher PF balance, the interest credited can greatly enhance long-term wealth creation via compounding.

The faster receipt of updates by members in comparison to past years also indicates the advances in the digital infrastructure of EPFO, which led to the effective completion of interest crediting by mid-July.

What to Watch Next EPFO Members

Generally there is no reason to panic if the new balance isn’t showing up right away. EPFO has clarified that the interest is credited in phases and the delay in updating the passbook does not reduce the amount payable. To avoid delays in service, members should check that their UAN is active and KYC details such as Aadhaar, PAN and bank details are appropriately linked.
