Chezhiyan died in Chennai on July 10 while receiving treatment for long illness. A career that influenced modern Tamil cinema

Chezhiyan is known as a cinematographer, but his influence extended well beyond the camera. He began his career as an assistant to the celebrated cinematographer P. C. Sreeram and made his independent debut with Kalloori in 2007.

Over the years he has worked in critically-acclaimed films like Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, Joker, Kondraal Paavam and Paradesi. His realistic visual style and emotionally rich narrations earned him the respect of both filmmakers and audiences.

Later Chezhiyan moved into direction cementing his name further in Indian cinema. His directorial debut To Let won the National Film Award for Best Tamil Feature Film. The film focused on the problems of middle class families looking for affordable housing and was praised for its real-life storytelling.

His films were always about common people and social realities and that is why they were artistically acclaimed and emotionally relatable.
