Next Gen Hyundai Creta Spotted With Hybrid Engine Bigger Cabin and All New Platform Ahead of Launch
The third-generation Hyundai Creta has entered an important phase of road testing, and the latest spy images suggest a much broader upgrade than a routine facelift. The heavily camouflaged SUV appears longer, squarer and more upright than today’s model, giving it a stronger road presence. Hyundai is expected to introduce the new Creta in India around 2027, although the company has not announced an official launch date, final specifications or variant details. Early reports point towards a redesigned body, improved cabin packaging and a more advanced technology package.
Next-Gen Hyundai Creta Hybrid Engine
The next-gen Hyundai Creta hybrid is expected to become one of the most important additions to the range. Reports indicate that Hyundai may combine a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with electric assistance and a compact battery pack. This strong-hybrid arrangement could reduce fuel use in urban traffic by allowing the vehicle to use electric power at low speeds or during light-load driving. However, the powertrain has not been officially confirmed for the production Creta. Reuters previously reported that Hyundai and Kia were evaluating Creta-sized hybrid SUVs for India, with possible introductions during the 2026–2027 period.
Bigger and More Practical Cabin
The test vehicle’s stretched proportions and short front and rear overhangs suggest that Hyundai is working to increase usable cabin space. A longer wheelbase could improve rear legroom, while the more upright roof and squarer body may provide better headroom and luggage capacity. Interior spy images have also revealed a larger freestanding touchscreen, a slimmer digital driver display, redesigned door trims and new upholstery. Some reports suggest that higher variants may receive enhanced front-seat comfort functions, including a relaxation-style passenger-seat control inspired by Hyundai’s electric models.
All-New K3 Platform Expected
A major engineering change could be the move from the existing architecture to Hyundai-Kia’s newer K3 platform. This structure is expected to support improved crash protection, stronger body rigidity and better noise and vibration control. It should also give designers more freedom to create a roomier cabin without making the SUV unnecessarily bulky. The platform can accommodate conventional engines and electrified powertrains, making it suitable for Hyundai’s longer-term product strategy. Reports also suggest that the new Creta could target a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, although official testing will determine its final rating.

Spy photographs show a flatter bonnet, a wider-looking front, sharper lighting elements and a more angular side profile. Flush-fitting door handles have also been seen on one test vehicle, adding a more premium touch. Inside, Hyundai’s Pleos Connect software is expected to power the new central display, with features such as over-the-air updates, connected services and an updated interface. Physical controls are still likely to remain for frequently used functions, helping drivers operate important settings without relying entirely on the touchscreen.
Existing Engines May Continue
Alongside the expected hybrid, Hyundai is likely to retain the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. Manual, CVT, DCT and torque-converter automatic transmissions could also continue, depending on the engine and variant. Recent testing in Manali indicates that Hyundai may be conducting high-altitude and cold-weather validation before completing development. With a larger cabin, new platform and possible strong-hybrid option, the next Creta appears positioned to compete with a wider group of family SUVs while preserving the everyday usability that has made the nameplate popular in India.
