Delhi Weather Update Says Monsoon May Arrive Around July 3 or 4
Delhi Monsoon – Finally, after days of stifling heat, gloomy sky and oppressive humidity, Delhi is moving towards a much-needed shift in weather. The south-west monsoon, which normally reaches the capital around late June, has been delayed this year, but the latest weather signals suggest respite could be just days away now. Conditions are ideal for the monsoon to further progress into Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and areas of north-west India in the next two days, the India Meteorological Department said.
Monsoon Reaches Delhi
Delhi monsoon is likely to arrive around July 3 or July 4, accompanied by rain, thundershowers and a dip in daytime temperatures. The IMD’s seven-day prediction expects mostly cloudy weather with mild to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in Delhi in the first week of July. The forecast also suggests that peak temperatures could dip to about 32-35C between July 3 and July 5, a significant change from the earlier hotter time.
Monsoon likely to arrive in Delhi in first week of July
Delhi has been waiting past its average monsoon date due to the delay in start. The south-west monsoon normally arrives in New Delhi on June 27, but this year its advance was checked before the capital. Earlier projections had said the monsoon might hit Delhi, Chandigarh and other areas between July 2 and July 8. The system now appears to be getting stronger again. The latest advisory from IMD indicated, the northern edge of the monsoon had reached areas like Meerut, Karnal and Gurdaspur, on July 1. It also implies the monsoon current is already over Delhi and if the weather pattern remains supportive, the city may be covered shortly.
Why Delhi’s Days Are Hot And Nights So Warm
The monsoon’s delayed arrival has made Delhi’s weather feel more severe than the temperature alone would indicate. The warm nights, the humidity, and the lack of real rain have made things uncomfortable. Even as the skies darken up, the humidity in the air holds in heat and makes it feel sticky. Rain is anticipated to bring some respite but the first spell may not be uniformly distributed across all regions of the city. IMD has expected very light to light rain at numerous sites, moderate rain at isolated places. Depending on the day, especially around morning, forenoon, evening or night hours, thunderstorms and gusty winds could potentially happen.
IMD Forecasts Rain, Cool Weather
Delhi’s weather is expected to stay generally gloomy during the next few days. IMD predicts light rain in numerous places, moderate rain at isolated places and winds that may touch 40-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph on July 2. July 3: One to two very light to light rain or thundershower periods probable with gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph. July 4 may be more cloudy with a slight chance of light rain or thunderstorms. This rain spell could assist to bring down the temperatures and increase comfort levels, especially throughout the day. But excessive humidity may persist until the monsoon is well established in the region.
What Residents Should Expect
Delhiites, brace for a switch from dry to wet and windy weather. Thunderstorm activity may produce sudden downpours, soggy conditions in low-lying areas, delayed traffic and brief power outages. Give yourself some extra time to get where you’re going, especially at rush hour. Cyclists and pedestrians going to work could see short, heavy downpours. During lightning and high winds stay away from trees and other poorly constructed objects.
Relief is on the way, but caution still counts
After a delayed start to the monsoon, Delhi has been waiting for a proper rainy spell and the advent of the monsoon around July 3 or 4 is welcome news. The approaching rains may not wipe out all weather-related misery at once but should be enough for a distinct change from the hot and humid weather to a more normal monsoon pattern. The bottom line for now is this: Delhi needs to brace itself for overcast conditions, rain and thundershowers and strong winds over the next few days. If the monsoon does arrive as forecast, the capital may get the seasonal breather it has been yearning for.
