Niharika NM Says She Lost a Film After Refusing an Intimacy Clause With a Co Star
Content creator and actor Niharika NM turned down a film because she refused to do intimate scenes with a co-star. Niharika said that she chose her personal boundaries over the opportunity. The actor said the project went ahead without her after negotiations on an intimacy clause broke down. Her comments have ignited fresh debates concerning consent, contractual clarity and the rights of entertainers.

Niharika in a recent interview said that she had given the audition for the film and she had passed the audition successfully and she had done the look test and signed the contract but she had noticed the intimacy clause. She read the contract, and told the filmmakers she wasn’t comfortable doing intimate scenes.
“The production team suggested a body double as an alternative,” Niharika said. But her co-star wanted to do the sequence with only the lead actor, she said, making the compromise impossible. She quit the project and they hired someone else for the part. Speaking about the incident, Niharika didn’t reveal the name of the film, production house or actor involved.
Choosing, Not Pressure of Career
“It is disappointing to lose a project especially for one who is trying to make a mark in films,” Niharika said. She said she never regrets her choice because it was in her comfort zone.

There’s been a growing chorus of actors talking about the importance of consent, clear communication and professional boundaries around scripts that involve intimate scenes in recent years. Many productions now employ intimacy coordinators to help ensure that the filming of such scenes is safe and consensual.
Digital Fame Actress
Niharika first rose to fame after her comedy videos and relatable social media content, which helped her to build a massive fan base across the digital platforms. Then she went on to pursue an acting career and began auditioning for roles in movies.
She also shared that she had her own struggles in the initial days of acting. She was under contract from one film to another and for a period of time was locked into a multi-film contract that prevented her from taking other projects that she felt would have been good for her career. Despite these problems she kept searching for opportunities in South Indian and Hindi films.
Bollywood Debut A New Chapter
Niharika has continued her acting career after the unnamed project fell through. She has acted in Tamil language films and has also dubbed for the Netflix animated series Big Mouth.
Now she is all geared up for her Hindi film debut Bhai Tera Star Hai opposite Raghav Juyal. “This is a huge milestone for her as she makes the transition from being one of India’s most recognisable digital creators to a mainstream film actor,” said the statement.
Why Her Story is Important
Niharika’s story is not simply the story of a role lost. It emphasises the growing importance of educated consent and personal choice in the entertainment industry. Her experience is yet another example of performers making career decisions based on their own limits, rather than outside influence, as conversations around workplace safety and actor welfare continue to evolve.
